Railways to give approval for construction of Dhuri Railway Overbridge on priority, Bittu
DHURI (SANGRUR), June 29 : Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Ravneet Singh Bittu on Wednesday announced that the railways will very soon give approval for construction of a railway overbridge adjoining Dhuri LC 62A railway crossing, a project long demanded by local residents. In a sharp attack, Bittu accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of taking false credit for a project he allegedly made no effort to pursue.
Today also the chief minister tweeted just before his visit to Dhuri regarding the availability of funds to the tune of 54.76 Crores for the construction of the said ROB. Calling the CM’s statement misleading, Bittu said, “In the last three years, Mann has not provided a single rupee to the Railways for Cost sharing overbridge projects across the state. If he had even sent ₹54.76 lakh, he would have held a press conference. This ₹54.76 crore claim is pure optics.” Can the CM tell in which head this amount is lying and why it has not been disbursed till today.
Few residents met me very recently and after listening to their grievances I immediately took up the issue at the highest level. “Despite being the MLA from Dhuri, the Chief Minister has done nothing to address this long-pending demand,” Bittu alleged. Now that the railways has taken the initiative, Bhagwant Mann is shamelessly trying to take credit.”
Bittu addressed the media during his visit to Dhuri. He said he had received multiple representations from local BJP leaders. Citizen groups also spoke to him. They urged immediate action on the overbridge. The 62A railway crossing remains closed for hours. This closure effectively cuts the town into two and causes daily chaos for commuters. Residents, he said, often have to wait three to four hours to cross the railway tracks.
The Union Minister also took aim at Mann’s alleged neglect of Dhuri. He noted that past Chief Ministers made significant efforts to develop their home constituencies. Mann has failed to do so. “He hasn’t held even a single public interaction in Dhuri since becoming CM. The bus stand remains in poor condition and the local hospital lacks basic infrastructure,” he said.
