Chandigarh, January 2: Punjab Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, on Thursday, handed over appointment letters to 15 JBT teachers. This event marks the first-ever regular recruitment for these positions in the jail department.
During the appointment letters distribution ceremony here at Punjab Bhawan, Laljit Singh Bhullar informed the audience. These teachers will play a crucial role in educating prisoners and their children. They will also facilitate the reintegration of prisoners into mainstream society.
This government has made regular recruitment
“Previously, these teaching positions were filled through temporary arrangements”, said the Cabinet Minister. He added that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is leading the government. This government has made regular recruitment. It is the first time in the last three decades. He explained that priority is given to posting newly-appointed teachers near their home districts. This helps them perform their duties easily.
JBT teachers ; 738 warders and 25 matrons joined their duties
The Jails Minister provided updates on ongoing recruitment initiatives in the Jail department. He said that 738 warders and 25 matrons have already joined their duties from the recently completed recruitment drive. Besides this, the recruitment process for 179 posts of guarding staff, including 175 warders and 4 matrons, is currently underway.
The Mann government is strengthening the department. Laljit Singh Bhullar announced the revival of 1,220 posts across various cadres in the jail department. The recruitment process is starting soon, and candidates are advised to begin preparing for it. Additionally, it is important to stay updated on the latest announcements and guidelines throughout the selection process.
“Educational and Skill Training for Prisoners”
The Cabinet Minister spoke about educational initiatives. They stated that approximately 2200 prisoners are currently pursuing various educational courses. These courses are part of the department’s Sikhya Daat Project. Moreover, authorities will train 513 prisoners in skill development in January 2025. Additionally, these courses include training for electricians, plumbers, and tailoring, all conducted by the Punjab Skill Development Mission. Furthermore, the program aims to enhance practical skills and improve employment opportunities for participants.
Punjab Govt’s 50,000 Jobs in 33 Months Under CM Mann
Laljit Singh Bhullar reflected on the Punjab Government’s achievements under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership. He noted that the state has successfully provided around 50,000 regular government jobs in just 33 months. This initiative aligns with the Chief Minister’s vision to curb brain drain. It aims to transform youth into job creators rather than job seekers, he added.
Govt Secures Private Jobs for 2.65 Lakh, Top Officials Attend”
The Cabinet Minister said that the government has also facilitated private sector employment for 2,65,430 candidates of the state.
Several prominent figures were present in the meeting. These included ADGP Jails Arun Pal Singh, IG Jails Roop Kumar Arora, and AIG Jails Rajiv Arora.
