Chandigarh, December 28: The leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is visionary. He helped strengthen the state’s leading cooperative, Milkfed, during the year 2024. The massive efforts of the state government strengthened the Milkfed. They worked to give remunerative prices to milk producers and expanded Verka mill plants. Additionally, they launched new products. The Chief Minister, who holds the portfolio of Cooperation, has sanctioned significant projects to Milkfed. These projects aim to supplement the income of farmers through milk production. They also strive to make dairy farming a profitable venture. To assist milk producers, the state government increased the fat rate per kilogram in milk to Rs 25. This applies from April 1 to October 31.

We are purchasing Verka milk at Rs 840 per kg fat.

At present, the milk is being purchased at Rs 840 per kg fat. Currently, there are 6000 cooperative societies in the state. These societies have five lakh milk producers registered with them. The Chief Minister has also dedicated an ultra modern Verka Dairy milk plant at Ludhiana. It has a capacity to process nine lakh litre milk daily. This plant also has capacity of catering 10 metric ton butter. Likewise, the Chief Minister has dedicated the upgraded Ferozepur milk plant to the masses. This plant has the capacity to process and package one lakh litre of milk daily. Bhagwant Singh Mann has also taken an important initiative to expand units involved in milk processing. The Chief Minister has also dedicated ultra modern project at Jalandhar for processing and packaging of fermented products.  

Chief Minister Boosts Farmers’ Income with Milkfed Initiative

The Chief Minister has made every effort to supplement the income of farmers. We augmented the infrastructure for the sale and supply of milk. 4o mini Milkfed had registered an increase of 9.5% by purchasing more than 20 lakh litres milk daily. This year, Milkfed began to sell sugar-free kheer. They also introduced milk cake and other products due to people’s demand. Despite strict competition, Milkfed sold 12.66 lakh litres of milk, which was 5% more than last year when 12.01 lakh litres were sold.
