FIRST SURGERY PERFORMED IN AN AD-HOC OT AT AIIMS BATHINDA.
Under the dynamic directorship of Professor DK Singh, AIIMS Bathinda achieved another important milestone today. First major surgery in AIIMS Bathinda was performed and the OT complex was inaugurated. He congratulated the team on success of the surgery and said that fool-proof set up of OT complex needs a lot of planning and hard work. Faculty of this institute has been working tirelessly for creation of this facility. Most equipment needed to initiate surgical facilities has been procured and installed by the institute under his supervision.
Medical superintendent Professor Satish Gupta informed that the patient was an employee of AIIMS Bathinda and sustained road traffic accident last week. He had a fracture of wrist which needed surgery. He also informed that an Ad-hoc OT has been set up at AIIMS Bathinda, pending completion of the IPD building and the major OT complex. This provisional OT complex can cater to many major and minor surgical procedures.
The anaesthetic team was led by Dr Navneh Samagh, who successfully induced the first patient for surgery. Surgery was performed by the team led by Dr Tarun Goyal and Dr Gaganpreet Singh. The team members included Dr Nimish Singh, Dr Laxmana Das, Mr Narendra, Mr Raghunath, Mr Vishal Yadav, Ms Anjali and Mr Harish Kumar.
The patient had a complex fracture near the wrist joint and treating him without surgery would not have led to good outcomes. The surgeons decided to operate the patient. The team could finally work on minor details and initiate the operating facility in the institute. The patient is recovering well after the surgery. Other senior faculty present at the time of inauguration were Professor Lajya Devi Goyal and Professor Akhilesh Pathak.
