Vigilance Bureau arrests 15 officials, 5 private persons

 Chandigarh, August 19, 2024: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing crusade against corruption in the state, has been able to apprehend 15 officials  and 5 private persons red handed while accepting bribes in 14 different trap cases during the month of July.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the VB has put up its best efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere during the period.

He informed that the Bureau had submitted challans pertaining to 8 vigilance cases in various competent courts in the last month.

“Additionally, authorities have registered 7 vigilance inquiries to thoroughly probe corruption cases against public servants. He added that they have also registered 9 criminal cases against 19 accused, including 13 government officials.

He further detailed that last month, the Jalandhar court decided one bribery case filed and contested by the Bureau.”In this case, authorities convicted and sentenced Sandeep Mittar, a Junior Assistant at the Improvement Trust Jalandhar, to 5 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000.”
