Punjab Horticulture Dept. Wins SKOCH Silver, 5 Semi-Final Spots

Chandigarh, February 13: updatepunjab : The Punjab Government excelled at the SKOCH Awards 2023, securing a Silver Award and 5 Semi-Final positions in the Horticulture sector during the ceremony at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi.Punjab Horticulture Minister S. Chetan Singh Jauramajra congratulated the department officials for earning the Silver Award for the Center of Excellence (CoE) for Vegetables (An Indo-Israeli) project in Kartarpur, Jalandhar. The project significantly improved farmers’ income by standardizing on-farm cold rooms and promoting crop diversification through pre-harvest technology.

The flagship project provides farmer training, demonstrations, disease-free planting material, and modern post-harvest management technologies. It includes a Hydroponics unit and plant clinic laboratory, distributing over 2 Crore disease-free vegetable seedlings across Punjab.

Semi-finalist projects like Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) Scheme, Project PHASE, Biofertilizer Laboratory Hoshiarpur, Sericulture, and Center of Excellence for Potato-Dhogri, Jalandhar (An Indo-Dutch Project) were praised for their innovation and positive impact.

Since 2003, the SKOCH Group, widely acknowledged as India’s preeminent think tank focusing on socio-economic issues of paramount importance, has been organizing the awards on a national scale, with the primary aim of identifying and honoring exceptional achievements that significantly contribute to the betterment of society.

Punjab Agriculture Department’s Secretary Mr. Ajit Balaji Joshi, Horticulture Director Mrs. Shailender Kaur, and Asst. Director (Horticulture) Mr. Daljit Singh Gill received the honors on behalf of Punjab.
