Show Cause Notice to Private School in Jalandhar for Non-Compliance with Compulsory Punjabi Language Teaching: Harjot Singh Bains

The Punjab school education department has issued a show-cause notice to Cambridge School in Jalandhar for not teaching the Punjabi subject as compulsory.

Moreover, Punjab’s School Education Minister, Mr. Harjot Singh Bains, revealed today that Punjabi wasn’t compulsory at Cambridge School near Chhoti Baradari of Jalandhar.

Asserting the Punjab government’s commitment under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan to uphold the dignity of the Punjabi language, Mr. Bains emphasized zero tolerance for any disrespect.

Referring to the notification from the Department of Legal and Legislative Affairs of the state and the Punjab Act-2008 on the Education of Punjabi and Other Languages,

Mr. Bains highlighted the mandatory teaching of Punjabi as a compulsory subject from the first to the tenth standard in every school in the state.

Mr. Bains noted that the department continues to receive complaints regarding violations of this act by some private schools in the state and assured stern action against all violators.

He appealed to all private schools in Punjab to ensure the compulsory teaching of the Punjabi subject.

he instructed officials of the school education department to identify those private schools where the Punjabi subject is not being taught to the students.
