Chandigarh, December 20 – Former union minister and Bathinda mp Harsimrat Kaur Badal today demanded the three revised Criminal bills be reviewed and checks and balances be introduced to ensure they were not misused besides calling for a revision of the clause allowing only the family to move a mercy petition of a convict, stating the new bills if passed would further violate the human rights of Bandi Singh Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana.
Participating in the debate on the three revised Criminal bills in parliament, Harsimrat Kaur Badal said “we should take care not to become an authoritarian State like China and should ensure human lives and values as enshrined in the constitution are given due respect”. Badal warns against creating a police state with unchecked powers and calls for checks and balances to prevent political misuse.
