Punjab youth congress protests,Police uses water cannons
Special package should be demanded from the Government of India
Chandigarh: 17
Punjab’s escalating crime, including daylight murders, extortion, drug abuse, and crimes against women, highlights the government’s failure. Punjab urgently needs a proactive approach to address the law and order crisis. Mohit Mohindra, President of Punjab Youth Congress, calls for a unified meeting of all political parties to strategize solutions. He demands a special package from the Government of India for law and order, urging the modernization of the police force
We’ll request the Hon’ Governor Punjab to intervene and advocate for Punjab before the GOI. Mohit, leading today’s Chandigarh protest, emphasizes the need for Punjab Govt to prioritize strengthening deaddiction and rehab centers over new mohalla clinics. Immediate fulfillment of the promised unemployment allowance for Punjab’s youth is crucial.
youth congress president Mohit highlights a rise in criminal activities, with 40% of youth and 48% of farmers succumbing to drug addiction. Urgent attention is needed, especially as the High Court criticizes police reluctance to prosecute drug traffickers. Drones, suspected in weapons and drug trafficking, pose a security threat, yet the government neglects modernization. Despite financial discrimination, the Central Government lacks visible involvement
There have been instances of theft targeting elderly women. In one case, the Ludhiana police solved a heist involving the theft of Rs 8.49 crore from the office of CMS Info Systems Ltd. In another case, a car-borne thief looted gold bangles from an elderly woman under the pretext of asking for directions.
Such incidents are becoming a daily occurrence, contributing to a growing sense of insecurity among the people of Punjab.
The escalating law and order situation has reached a critical point. We are witnessing an alarming surge in the abductions of affluent individuals for extortion, brazenly taking place even in broad daylight, an occurrence that is unprecedented in its scale. The business and trading communities are also grappling with a palpable sense of stress, fueled by uncertainties about their future.
This distressing scenario is eerily reminiscent of the mass exodus of people from the State during the tumultuous nineties. The gravity of the situation demands an immediate and decisive strategy from the Government.
The menace of gangsters continues unabated despite the Government’s claims to the contrary. Recently, a notorious criminal, Sukhdev Singh alias Vicky, was killed in an exchange of fire near Panjeta village on the Kohara-Machhiwara road in Ludhiana.
A dreaded gangster, Karanjit Singh alias Jassa Haibowal, who was brought to an abandoned building in the Zirakpur area for the recovery of a weapon by an Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) team of Punjab Police, even attempted to flee from police custody. This exposes the gaps in the professionalism of the police.
The Chandigarh police used water cannons to disperse the workers who were protesting against the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab today. Later thousands of the workers alongwith Mohit Mohindra , President Punjab Youth Congress were detained by the chandigarh police.
