Vigilance Bureau arrests private person taking Rs 70,000 bribe for police sub inspector
Chandigarh October 12 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Thursday arrested a private person Vijay Kumar @ DC for accepting bribe of Rs 70,000 on behalf of a police sub inspector Rajwant Singh, posted as incharge Police Post Kanganwal, Ludhiana district.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said that the above said accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Subash Kumar, a resident of Urban Vihar, Ludhiana.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB Ludhiana range and alleged that the said police post incharge was demanding a bribe of Rs one lakh in lieu of settlement of a police complaint lodged against him by his neighbour who was opposing against opening of a rear gate of his factory situated at Harpal Nagar , Industrial Area , Ludhiana.
He further alleged that a middleman of said police personnel namely Vijay Kumar @ DC has intervened into the case and struck a deal with the sub inspector at Rs 80,000. The complainant further alleged that due to pressure the police sub inspector has already taken Rs 10,000 as a first instalment and now demanding the remaining money through his above said middleman.
The spokesperson informed that the VB range Ludhiana after a preliminary investigation of this complaint laid a trap and the accused private person Vijay Kumar @ DC has been arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 from the complainant in the premises of his factory in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case has been registered against both the accused under the prevention of corruption act at VB police station Ludhiana range. Further investigation in this case was under progress and the absconding police sub inspector would also be arrested soon, he added.
