Vigilance Bureau arrests JE for taking bribe Rs 12,000 and asking for more money of Rs 7,000

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign under the zero tolerance policy against corruption adopted by the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led government, on Friday arrested Rajan Kumar, Junior Engineer (J.E.) electricity, Sub-Division-2, Punjab Public Works Department (Building and Roads) Bathinda for obtaining Rs 12,000 and demanding Rs 7,000 more as a bribe.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on the basis of an online complaint made by Gurmail Singh, resident of Maur Mandi, district Bathinda on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.
Giving details he added that the said complainant has alleged that the accused J.E. had already taken Rs 12,000 as a bribe from the complainant’s father Deputy Singh as 5 percent commission of the total amount in exchange for the repair work and passing electricity bills of Mohalla Clinic at Village Karadwala, district Bathinda. The complainant further informed that now the said accused JE has demanded Rs 7000 more as 3 percent commission of total amount as a bribe. The complainant has recorded the conversation in this regard and handed over to VB as an evidence.
The spokesperson said during the investigation of this complaint by the VB, it was found that the said JE had received a bribe of Rs 12,000 from the complainant and demanded more bribe of Rs 7,000. On the basis of this enquiry Rajan Kumar J.E. has been arrested and registered a bribery case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB Police Station, Bathinda range and further investigation was under progress, he added.
