A grand victory march was taken out in Chandigarh on Thursday in celebration of the historic victory on 14 seats by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which was fielding for the first time in the MC Elections. Yatra was given a grand welcome by the people of Chandigarh. The Vijay Yatra was led by Aam Aadmi Party national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. During this, Kejriwal congratulated AAP’s candidates for their resounding victory in the municipal elections. In the presence of party MP and Punjab President Bhagwant Mann and co-in-charge of Punjab affairs and MLA Raghav Chadha, Kejriwal’s Vijay Yatra started from Aroma Chowk in Sector 22 and ended in Sector 23. A large number of Aam Aadmi Party supporters including Prem Garg AAP Chandigarh President, Pradeep Chhabra co-In-charge, Harmohan Dhawan former Union Minister, Chandramukhi Sharma party in-charge for Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections, along with all the 14 elected councillors. During the procession, the people of Chandigarh and AAP supporters showered AAP leaders with flowers and gave a rousing welcome to Kejriwal.
During the Vijay Yatra, Arvind Kejriwal thanked the people of Chandigarh for their support to Aam Aadmi Party in the municipal elections and said that the results of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation are being discussed all over the country. He said that there is a discussion going on in the country that after Delhi, when the Aam Aadmi Party can uproot the Congress and the BJP which has been ruling Chandigarh for a long time, then AAP can do the same in the whole country.
Kejriwal said, “I heartily thank every citizen here for this resounding victory of AAP and promise that we will never let that trust be broken. The love that Chandigarh residents have given, we will never let it go and will live up to all the expectations.”
In his address, he told the elected councillors of ‘AAP’ that it was not so easy to defeat the BJP and Congress, which have been in Chandigarh for a long time and the country’s oldest parties. But after defeating them, now their responsibility has increased, and work will have to be done keeping the trust shown by the people.
Kejriwal said that the people of Chandigarh have cast their vote after seeing the Delhi model of AAP. Applying the Delhi model in Chandigarh will also make it the most beautiful city. During the Vijay Yatra, he told his elected councillors of Chandigarh that the party’s politics was only till the corporation elections, now after winning the elections, the councillors of other parties are also their own. He said that in the name of development of the city and providing facilities to the people here, there should not be any kind of partiality with the councillors of other parties and their supporters.
Kejriwal said that the city of Chandigarh must be given back the tag of ‘City Beautiful’ and make it the most beautiful city in the country. He also administered oath to all the councillors present on the occasion for the development of the city and the betterment of the residents and allegiance to the party. Kejriwal said that after winning Delhi, he won the municipal elections of Chandigarh, similarly he will come to Chandigarh to administer an oath after securing a historic victory in the Punjab Legislative Assembly elections.
Addressing the Vijay Yatra, AAP MP Bhagwant Mann said that the residents of Chandigarh have changed history. He said that Aam Aadmi Party does not do politics of hatred and religion, AAP does politics based on development. This is the reason why the candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party have defeated the veteran leaders of other parties in these corporation elections. He said that after achieving this historic victory in the municipal elections, now their main goal is to make Chandigarh ‘City Beautiful’ again and to make it number one among the beautiful cities across the country. He said that AAP has first won the capital of the country and now after winning Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab, AAP will also form its government in Punjab.
During the victory rally, ‘AAP’ co-in-charge Pradeep Chhabra and Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election in-charge Chandramukhi Sharma also addressed and thanked the people of the city for giving ‘AAP’ a landslide victory in the corporation elections.

After the historic victory in the municipal elections, Arvind Kejriwal had arrived in Chandigarh on Thursday to lead the Vijay Yatra. Kejriwal was addressing the media after landing at the Mohali airport. Kejriwal expressed his gratitude to the people of Chandigarh for making the Aam Aadmi Party the biggest party in the municipal elections by awarding 14 seats when they were fielding this election for the first time.
He assured the people that Aam Aadmi Party will live up to their faith and expectations, will bring change in Chandigarh like Delhi. He said that the wind of development of Delhi will now flow in Chandigarh too. Aam Aadmi Party will clean up the soot that has been put on the beauty of the city by the Congress and BJP, which have ruled the city corporation for 25 years. On the question of making a mayor in the municipal corporation, Kejriwal claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party will make its mayor in Chandigarh; will announce the name soon.
