Welfare of Punjab is at the centre of the Punjab Model : PPCC President
Amloh :25 December 2021
The PPCC President speaking at the event said that the objective of the Punjab model is welfare of the people and it is backed by resources of the state. He remarked that welfare of the people is backed by resources of the state which is a social commitment of a constitutional democracy like India. The goals of the state should be fulfilled by correct policy and a roadmap which is the Punjab Model and bare hollow promises of the opponents cannot make Punjab a prosperous state.
Speaking on the farmers issue he said that farmer’s income is at the centre of the crisis of the farmer’s movement and procurement of farm products at the MSP is the right of the farmers and his Model stands with it. Moreover, he talked about crop diversification policy and said that the country is still importing pulses and oilseeds worth about Rs 80,000 crore per annum which ideally should be deficited by the farmers of punjab.
Furthermore, he said that Punjab is the leading producer of “food grain” such as rice and wheat in the world. Nevertheless, food-derivatives such as Rice Starch, Rice Bran, Rice Oil, Rice Protein, Rice Fats, Rice Flour have 10-20 times more value than just food grains and the farmers of the Punjab should focus on this. The global market of food derivatives is 100 Million and Punjab has not even a share 0.01% in it.
Elaborating on the Punjab Model, he emphasized that it will bring about policies like Market Intervention Schemes to support such farmers who will grow lentils, oilseeds and develop food derivatives in Punjab leading ‘Yellow Revolution”. While addressing the issue, he also promised that his model will modernize and bring reform to the warehouse, cold storage and APMC Mandis in Punjab.
Making the state independent and self sufficient by utilising its resource bank and creating multiple revenue streams should be the focus of the state and Punjab Model is well equipped to fight the system and achieve the same. Bringing the focus back from pure spending and moving towards holistic growth by creating revenue mechanisms and employment is the way forward for the state of Punjab.
