Municipal Employees Unions Called Off the Strike:• All Grievances Resolved in Presence of Local Government Minister
Chandigarh, July 1:
After intervention of Local Government Minister Mr. Brahm Mohindra, Municipal employees today called off the strike. All grievances and 16 demands of Municipal employees Unions have been thoroughly discussed in meeting held under the chairmanship of the Local Government Minister at Sector-35, here.
Presiding over the meeting, Mr. Mohindra said that the decision to regularise the jobs of sweepers and sewermen has already been taken in the cabinet meeting led by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Instructions have been issued to all urban local bodies to take action in this regard and this process will be completed within a maximum of one month. He said that as far as other municipal employees are concerned, the matter is being considered sympathetically by the Local Government Department and it will be resolved in the next two months.
On the issue of same salary for the same work, Mr. Mohindra said that instructions have been issued to all ULBs in this regard and a special allowance/oil allowance of Rs.500 has sanctioned for the sweepers.
Union raised the demand to exempt them from duty tax (Rs. 200) in the meeting for which Mr. Local Government Minister said that the department agrees with this demand. A notification in this regard will be issued after getting the approval from the Finance Department.
The Cabinet Minister said that the municipal employees have done their job diligently during the Corona pandemic at the frontline, which is commendable and he assured that decision on demands of municipal employees to be taken within stipulated time.
