250 Building Projects Worth Rs 2000 Crore Underway in Punjab: Harbhajan Singh ETO
Chandigarh, January 20 : Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO announced on Monday. He stated that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has achieved a record electricity supply. The supply reached 66914 MUs as of January 19, 2025. This marks a 13% increase compared to the same period last fiscal year. He said that this significant growth highlights PSPCL’s efforts to enhance power infrastructure. They aim to meet the growing electricity demands of Punjab’s residents and industries.
PSPCL ensured uninterrupted electricity supply to all categories
The Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO revealed more details. He said that the maximum demand met during fiscal year 2024-25 is 16058 MW. This is 5% higher than the previous year. “PSPCL has ensured uninterrupted electricity supply to all categories of consumers in Punjab.The Power Minister said, “We did not impose any power cuts.” He added that PSPCL achieved this feat due to the adequate arrangements it made. This demonstrates the corporation’s commitment to providing reliable power supply.

The Power Minister addressed coal availability. He informed that PSPCL is ensuring regular and adequate supplies. This has resulted in a good buildup of stock in all three state-run thermal plants. He reported that the current stock levels stand at 42 days for Guru Gobind Singh Thermal Plant (GGSTP) Ropar. It is 28 days for Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant (GHTP) Lehra Mohabbat. The stock is 40 days for Guru Amardas Thermal Plant (GATP) Goindwal Sahib. He stated that PSPCL is making every effort. Their goal is to maintain coal availability for the upcoming paddy season. This is essential, as it is required to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations. Furthermore, it is equally necessary to meet demand effectively, which, in turn, helps maintain efficiency and consistency throughout the process. Additionally, ensuring a steady coal supply will contribute to the long-term sustainability of operations.

“The Pacchwara coal mine has been providing a steady supply of good-quality coal.This supply has significantly contributed to the state power sector. Furthermore, he added that, as of January 19, 2025, the mine has supplied 56 lakh tons of coal. As a result, this amount is equivalent to 1,306 rakes during the 2024-25 period. Additionally, this continued supply ensures a steady and reliable flow of coal, further bolstering the state’s power generation capabilities.
