World hypertension day was celebrated at Rural Health Training Centre, Naraingarh by Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER under guidance of Dr. Kathirvel. S, Assistant Professor, PGIMER. Dr. Nikita Sharma, Senior resident said that high blood pressure (hypertension) is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases like heart attack, angina and stroke. This year the theme is Know your numbers which aims to increase the awareness regarding high blood pressure in general population. Knowing about your own blood pressure measurement is the first step in prevention and treatment of hypertension. The health professionals have a stressful life and are at high risk to develop non communicable diseases. In collaboration with Health Department, Haryana, a health camp was organised for the staffs of Sub district Hospital, Naraingarh. Dr.Nairita Dalui, Junior resident talked about the risk factors, prevention and treatment of hypertension. She said that blood pressure should be kept below 140/90 mm of Hg in hypertensive patients. Low salt diet, regular exercise, weight reduction and avoiding alcohol and stress can effect the control of high blood pressure. Around 50 health professionals including SMO, doctors and nurses were screened for high blood pressure and blood sugar.
