State procures 99.5% of the total wheat arrival in the grain markets

Chandigarh May 10:

Out of the total of 124.04 LMT of wheat arrival in the grain markets across the State by 9th May, Government Agencies have procured 123.48 LMT while private traders have procured 52918 MT, amounting to approximately 99.5 % procurement of the total arrival of wheat in the ongoing Rabi season, informed an official spokesman of the government of Punjab.

 This year there has been 6.81 LMT greater procurement than last year. On the corresponding date during Rabi 2017 the procurement was to the tune of 117.20 LMT, he added.

Drawing an agency wise comparison of wheat procurement till May 9 to the last year’s data, he informed that PUNGRAIN has procured 28.63LMT wheat as against 26.56 LMT last year, MARKFED procured 27.11LMTas against 23.89LMT, PUNSUP has purchased 23.82 LMT as compared to 21.93LMT, PSWC has purchased 16.82 LMT as compared to 17.94 LMT, Punjab Agro has procured 12.32 LMT of wheat as compared to 9.88 LMT and FCI has purchased 14.76 LMT of the wheat as against 14.28 LMT procurement in the last year.

 The spokesman further informed that more than 111.80 LMT of the wheat procured by government agencies, has been lifted and Rs. 17,963 crore has been released to the farmers through the commission agents of the state.
