PGIMER resumes normal functioning as Outsourced workers call off the strike.

2727 patients examined including 1763 examined physically and 964 through teleconsultation

In consequence to the Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court Order on 24th March, by a Bench of Hon’ble Chief Justice Ravi Shanker Jha and Hon’ble Justice Arun Palli, restraining the PGI Contract Workers’ Union from proceeding on strike and from disrupting/disturbing the functioning and the activities of the institute/hospital in any manner, PGI Contract Workers’ Union, through a written communication to the Director PGIMER, informed about their decision to call off the strike proposed for today. This information was received at 9.30 am today.

Prof. Ashok Kumar Official Spokesperson, PGIMER further detailed, “After receiving the information, the normal functioning of the Institute was resumed with the outsourced workers reporting for duty. Even the timings of the registration were increased till 12.30 pm from the routine 10 am on usual days to facilitate the patients.”

However, the Administration had ensured that patients are not put to inconvenience and accordingly necessary arrangements were made beforehand. Hence, despite a little confusion in the morning hours till the outsourced workers resumed their duties, no untoward incident was reported and the situation was well under control, stated the Official Spokesperson.

It was further informed that in all, 2727 patients were examined through the day including 1763 examined physically and 964 reached out through tele-consultation. This is in addition to the patients examined under emergency and ICU services.

In addition 83 surgeries were performed including 57 elective surgeries and 26 emergency surgeries till 4 pm today and further surgeries are ongoing as per the schedule.
