SAYS AROUND 36000 FARMERS COMMITTED SUICIDE DURING LAST THREE YEARS IN COUNTRY DUE TO WRONG POLICIES OF THE MODI GOVERNMENT

Chandigarh, February 8-

President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and Lok Sabha MP Mr. Sunil Jakhar today slammed the Modi Government for its anti-farmers’ policies during his maiden speech in the august house.

In his address, Jakhar, while questioning the ‘sudden found’ love of Modi government for the farmers’, said that the farming community was asking that where were they in the budget presented by the NDA government recently. He said that Finance Minister has boasted to enhance the income of farmers 1.5 times more than their input costs and the treasury bench was hailing it. However, the MP said that it was still to be ascertained as whether this increase would be of the labour of the farmer or that of comprehensive costs.

Jakhar said that the farmer of the country might be innocent and less educated but at least he was not a fool. He urged the Finance Minister to refrain from killing the farmer with the pen.

The MP said that smoke due to burning of paddy straw was a hot topic in politics of Delhi and unfortunately the farmers of Punjab and Haryana were being blamed for it. But, he said that wasn’t the smoke of pyres of farmers committing suicide in the entire country reaching the national capital. Mr. Jakhar said that due to wrong policies of the Modi government around 36000 farmers have committed suicide in the country during last three years adding that after every 45 minutes a farmer was ending his life in the country.

The MP said that country’s farmer was dying today but the NDA government was showing green pastures or ‘ache din’ to them for the year 2022. Taking a quip on Akali MPs in the Parliament, he said that these people who claim to be votaries of farmers were supporting the anti-farmer budget of the NDA government, for their vested political interests.

The MP also assailed the Modi government for their policy for dealing with Pakistan as our brave soldiers were being martyred at LoC and border. He said that love letters of Modi government and even 56 inches chest has failed to stop Pakistan from shelling.

Mr. Jakhar also raised the issue of industry of Batala in the Parliament and criticized the decision to discontinue Freight Corridor Subsidy. He said that the Modi government must desist from ruining the already existing industry in the state.

Making a scathing attack on the previous SAD-BJP alliance government in the state, the MP said that the alliance has put the future of the state on stake by getting converted the Rs 31000 crore food grain scam into a long term loan just before one day of counting of votes. He sought a complete waiver of this loan from the Finance Minister.

Training his guns at the NDA government for vitiating the atmosphere of the country, the MP said that the people from minorities and SC community were facing a lot of atrocities. He said that who would invest in the country in such type of scenario. Mr. Jakhar also slammed the Modi government for re-writing the history to undermine the importance of nationalistic leaders. He said that martyrs of the country sacrificed their lives not for any single community or caste but they did so for the country. The MP said that Congress has a glorious history of sacrifices for the country, which could never be wiped off.
