PVS Speaker holds dialogue on millets with renowned scientist Padma Shri Dr. Khadar Vali

Chandigarh, May 23:

          Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan held dialogue with renowned scientist, natural health expert Padma Shri Dr. Khadar Vali on disease-free healthy lifestyle with millets diet.

          During the brief program at his official residence here, the Speaker said that the United Nations General Assembly has declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets. He said that the millets, which are one of the oldest foods known to mankind, are not only beneficial for our health but also good for nature as the small-seeded and hardy crops are resilient to changes in climate, and the consumption of water is also less for producing millet grains.

          Discussion other aspects, the ‘Millet Man of India’ Padma Shri Dr. Khadar Vali said that millets or small-seeded foods, which are rich in proteins, antioxidants, minerals, fiber and other nutrients, help to lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Food prepared with millets helps in getting rid of diseases, said Dr. Vali, while urging the dignatries to adopt the millets in their day to day life to live a healthy life.

          Later, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, Sports and Environment Minister Mr. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, MLAs, higher officials of the departments and other dignitaries tasted the food prepared with millets such as Kodhra (kodo millet), Kangni (foxtail millet), Ragi (finger millet), Jowar (Sorghum millet) and Bajra (pearl millet) and hosted by the Speaker. Mr. Umendra Dutt from Kheti Virasat Mission was also present on this occasion.
