Vigilance Bureau nabs SDO for accepting bribe of Rs. 2 Lakh

  • Accused SDO demanded Rs. 5 Lakh in lieu of issuing a Utilisation Certificate

Chandigarh, July 4:

          In its drive against corruption in the state, Punjab Vigilance Bureau today nabbed a SDO Panchayati Raj Amarjeet Kumar posted at BDPO office, Fatehgarh Sahib while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 Lakh in lieu of issuing a Utilisation Certificate.

          An official Spokesperson of the VB said that the SDO has been arrested on the complaint of Gurmeet Singh resident of village Basantpura in tehsil Rajpura.

          He further said that the complainant has lodged a complaint with Police Station VB, Patiala Range that the accused SDO Amarjeet Kumar had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 Lakh in lieu of issuing the Utilisation Certificate regarding development works undertaken at his village.

          After the preliminary investigation, the spokesperson said that a VB team laid a trap and arrested the accused SDO red handed while accepting Rs 2 lakhs as a first installment of the bribe from the complainant in the presence of Government officials.

          In this regard, a case has been registered under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act against the SDO Amarjeet kumar at Police Station VB, Patiala Range and further investigation is in progress.
