The teachers from DAV College and various other Chandigarh colleges held protest march

The teachers from DAV College, Chandigarh and various other Chandigarh colleges, along with PUTA,  today  held a protest march after assembling at SGGS College, Sector 26 under the banner of PFUCTO. A delegation led by the leaders of PCCTU and PFUCTO submitted a memorandum to the ADC of Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh regarding the apathy of Punjab government towards higher education and teaching fraternity. The decision of Rally was taken in a meeting of District Council, Chandigarh (PCCTU) held few days back at DAV College Chandigarh. The teachers from the DAV College and other Chandigarh colleges press for their demands which include implementation of UGC pay scales, due since Jan 2016, which have already been granted by all the states and UT’s across the nation.  Also all other employees in Punjab and Chandigarh except teachers of the university and colleges have been granted revised pay scales.  The hunger strike here today  at DAV College, entered 9th  day in a row to protest against the inordinate delay in implementation of UGC 7th pay commission in Punjab and the decision to delink their salaries from UGC pay-scales. Sumit Goklaney, President DAVCTU said that Punjab government has completely turned a blind eye towards teaching fraternity. Despite repeated assurances, government each times becomes ignorant to implement recommendations of UGC 7th  pay commission. He also added that they will further intensify the stir if new grades are not implemented and decision to delink UGC from pay scales is not revoked.
