3RD ANNUAL AIIMS FORENSIC GUILD CONCLAVE-2022″ CONFERENCE HOSTED AT AIIMS BATHINDA

All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bathinda hosted the prestigious “3rd Annual AIIMS Forensic GUILD Conclave-2022”, a three days national conference between 24th– 26th March 2022. The event was hosted by the department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, under the able guidance of Executive Director and CEO AIIMS Bathinda, Dr. D.K. Singh.

This conference was intended to deliberate and develop strong recommendation for the development of the department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology in the Institutes of National Importance and substantially to contribute in improving the status of medico-legal services in their respective regions. Several experts from prestigious institutes in different parts of the country like AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Rishikesh, AIIMS Bhopal, AIIMS Patna, AIIMS Bhubaneshwar, AIIMS Mangalgiri, AIIMS Nagpur, AIIMS Gorakhpur, AIIMS Bibinagar, and AIIMS Deoghar participated and shared their views on the said topic.

Dr. Akhilesh Pathak, Prof. and Head, Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, AIIMS Bathinda who was also the chairman of the conference – said that the event is expected to play a significant role in capacity building of the faculty members from the newly established AIIMS like institutes and develop their expertise in the fields of post-mortem and medico-legal assignments, Clinical Forensic Medicine, and Toxicology. Specifically, the discussions focused on the modernization of autopsy blocks with new technologies, particularly in preparation of autopsy blocks for handling the extremely contagious dead bodies, like COVID-19. The group also explored the possibility, viability and utility of starting super-speciality courses in forensic medicine that can contribute to development of trained human resource in the field of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, including Crime scene investigation, Analytical toxicology lab, DNA labs, Forensic radiology labs, and anthropology labs. The conference delivered the output in form of a draft document with all the recommendations.
