BPC office bearers urge the government to get the FIR cancelled without delay, with a mention that the failure would evoke nationwide protests

Bathinda (January 7,:  Bathinda Press Club on Sunday strongly condemned the registration of an FIR against the reporter of The Tribune and others who were quoted in the news item related to the exposure of loopholes in the nation’s prestigious Aadhar data mechanism.

Finding it a clear case of attempt to gag the media, Bathinda Press Club President Rajay Deep, joined by General Secretary Sachin Sharma, Vice President Rajesh Negi, Secretary Gurtej Singh Sidhu, Joint Secretary Ashwani Kumar and Cashier Vinod Bansal, said that “instead of looking out the possibilities to improve the mechanism, officers of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) get the FIR lodged against the journalist whose investigative story was all in the interest of the nation.” “We urge the government to get the FIR cancelled without delay as the failure would otherwise evoke nationwide protests and Bathinda Press Club will be leading the agitation from the front,” stated the members and the office bearers of the BPC in unison.
