VIGILANCE BUREAU NABS ASI, CONSTABLE FOR ACCEPTING BRIBE OF RS.15,000

Chandigarh, July 11:

 

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Krishan Lal and Constable Raj Kumar posted at City Police Station-1, Abohar in Fazilka district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000.

 

The accused Police Officials have been arrested on the complaint of Bheem Sain resident of village Bazidpur Kattianwali in Fazilka district.

 

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said that the complainant Bheem Sain had lodged a complaint with VB Police Station, Ferozepur Range that the accused ASI had called on his mobile phone on March 17, 2023 that a woman has lodged a molestation complaint against him. Next day, he went to City Police Station-1, Abohar along with Constable Raj Kumar, who is also resident of village Bazidpur Kattianwali.

The complainant alleged that the accused ASI had demanded a bribe of Rs.1 lakh for compromise and settling the complaint of molestation lodged against him. After the repeated requests, he agreed to take Rs 50,000 for settling the complaint and he had took Rs.20,000 very same day from him. After this, the accused police officials started compelling him to pay remaining amount of the bribe and the complainant paid Rs. 15,000 more via online platform Google pay on the mobile number of Constable Raj Kumar on March 26, 2023. When the complainant asked for the copy of compromise, the accused police officials demanded the remaining Rs 15,000 as the bribe.

The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary investigation of the complaint, a VB unit Fazilka team laid a trap and arrested the accused ASI and Constable on the spot while accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused ASI and Constable at Police Station VB, Ferozepur Range. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
