AIIMS Bathinda Celebrates 16thWorld Plastic Surgery Day with Successful CME Event

Bathinda, July 16, 2023 – AIIMS Bathinda, one of India’s leading healthcare institutions, proudly celebrated the 16th World Plastic Surgery Day on July 15, 2023. The event was organized by the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery at AIIMS Bathinda and marked with a highly informative Continuing Medical Education (CME) program held at the AIIMS Bathinda campus. Renowned plastic surgeons, medical professionals, and enthusiasts from across the country gathered to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and explore the latest advancements in the field of plastic surgery.

The World Plastic Surgery Day, celebrated annually on July 15th, aims to raise awareness about the transformative power of plastic surgery in enhancing lives and boosting self-confidence. This year, the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery at AIIMS Bathinda took the opportunity to organize an enlightening CME event to educate and empower medical practitioners with the latest techniques and trends in plastic surgery.

 

The event commenced with an introduction by the Head of the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, Dr. Mohd Altaf Mir, who highlighted the department’s establishment and the remarkable milestones it has achieved. This was followed by captivating speeches from Dean Prof. Akhilesh Pathak and Medical Superintendent Prof. Rajiv Kumar, who commended the department’s tireless efforts and expressed unwavering support for further advancements in the field of plastic surgery.

 

The CME program was graced by the presence of esteemed guest of honour, Prof. SP Bajaj, a globally acclaimed plastic surgeon and a prominent figure in the field. Prof. Bajaj delivered an inspiring address, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning, collaboration, and compassionate patient care.

 

The CME program witnessed an impressive lineup of distinguished speakers who presented their expertise and insights on various aspects of plastic surgery. The speakers included:

 

– Prof. Adil Hafeez Wani (SKIMS, Srinagar): Prof. Wani shared his extensive knowledge and experience in cancer and reconstructive surgery, enlightening the audience on the latest advancements in the field.

 

– Prof. Rakesh Kain (VMMC, New Delhi): Prof. Kain presented on the topic of Microvascular reconstruction: advanced technology and refinement, providing valuable insights into the latest advancements and techniques in this specialized area of plastic surgery.

 

– Dr. Gaurav Chaturvedi (AIIMS Bhopal): Dr. Chaturvedi discussed the role of the horizontal micromattress suturing technique for anastomosing vessels with size discrepancies, offering practical insights and advancements in microsurgery.

 

– Dr. Navneet Sharma (AIIMS Bilaspur): Dr. Sharma shared his expertise on distally based sural flaps, highlighting their applications and advancements in reconstructive procedures.

 

The team of esteemed experts also paid a visit to the Burns and Plastic Surgery Ward at AIIMS Bathinda, where they were greatly impressed by the exceptional clinical services provided by the talented plastic surgeons. The Dean of AIIMS Bathinda proudly acknowledged that patients afflicted with cleft lip and palate, post-burn hand contractures, victims of brachial plexus injuries, and congenital deformities are now receiving comprehensive care at AIIMS Bathinda’s Burns and Plastic Surgery Department. This remarkable development means that individuals residing in the Malwa region and its surrounding areas no longer need to travel to Delhi or Chandigarh for specialized treatment concerning these conditions.
