KHEDAN WATAN PUNJAB DIYAN-2022 : ENTHUSIASM OF BLOCK-LEVEL TOURNAMENT RAISES HOPES OF PUNJAB REGAINING DOMINATION IN SPORTS: MEET HAYER

SPORTS MINISTER ENCOURAGES PLAYERS IN COMPETITIONS AT BHAGOMAJRA OF KHARAR BLOCK

Bhagomajra (Kharar), September 2:

          Fulfilling the firm commitment of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government to make State a force to reckon with in sports, the Sports Department has begun to revive the sports atmosphere in the state by seeing the huge enthusiasm of the players during the ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Deyan-2022’ block level tournament.

          It was stated by Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Friday while interacting with players at Shaheed Kanshi Ram Memorial Physical Education College Bhagomajra during Block Kharar tournament. The competitions pertaining to Athletics, football, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi and Tug of War are being held at Bhagomajra in which more than 2000 players are participating. Also, more than 11000 players are participating in all Blocks of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar.

          Meet Hayer said that the purpose of these games is to identify the players from the lower rung in every game and then prepare them for the national and international level competitions. A total of 28 sports competitions are being organized in six age groups from under 14 to over 50 years of age. Six events will be held from September 1 to 7, the winners of which will advance to the district level.

          The Sports Minister said that seeing the enthusiasm of the players, the sports department has extended the registration for district and state level competitions in the remaining 22 sports till September 8. The District level competitions in 22 sports are being conducted from September 12 to 22 and state level competitions in 28 sports are being conducted from October 10 to 21.

          Prominent among others who were present at the occasion included Director Sports Rajesh Dhiman, SDM Kharar Ravinder Kumar, District Sports Officer Gurdeep Kaur and Principal Dalbara Singh Dhaliwal.
