ON CM DIRECTIVES, JIMPA TAKES STOCK OF ON GROUND SITUATION IN FLOOD-AFFECTED AREAS OF HOSHIARPUR DISTRICT

– Disaster Management Minister visited flood affected villages of Hoshiarpur district and evacuated them safely

Chandigarh, August 16:

          After Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann directed his cabinet colleagues to protect lives and property of people during the recent flood situation, Minister for Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Bram Shanker Jimpa today visited the flood affected villages of Tanda and Mukerian in Hoshiarpur district. He reviewed the rescue operations and he himself went to the flooded villages via boat and evacuated them safely.

          He said that at present the priority of the Punjab government is to evacuate the people of the flood affected villages safely. He said that the Punjab government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is standing with the flood affected people. Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, MLA Jasveer Singh Raja Gill and Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal were also present with him during the visit to Urmur Vidhan Sabha constituency.

          Jimpa said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the rescue operations in the flood-affected villages of the district are going on, on war footing. He said that the teams of NDRF and SDRF in the district are engaged in the work of evacuating the people safely. Currently, the entire district administration is alert and working day and night for the safety of the flood affected people.

          He said that due to the heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh for the past few days, the water level of the Pong Dam had increased significantly, due to which the water of the Beas River has entered the villages. He appealed that the people of the villages located on the banks of the river should go to safe places or to the relief camps set up by the administration. He assured that efforts are being made by the district administration to provide all possible facilities in the relief camps, where the people will not face any kind of problem.
