PGI Interventional Radiology Faculty sweep Awards at National Intervention Radiology Meet in Goa

Prof. M.S. Sandhu Head Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging stated that it is a matter of great pride for the Department and for the Institute that majority of the Awards and Prizes at the National Intervention Radiology Conference were bagged by the PGI Faculty and Residents at Goa recently. The 22nd Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology was held after a gap of 3 years at the Convention Center of the Grand Hyatt Goa from 31st March to 3rd April, 2022 and many International and National Faculty and Delegates attended this very coveted Conference.

Prof. Sandhu stated that PGI was amongst the 1st in the country to start very sophisticated and advanced Interventional Radiology procedures like Cryoablation and Irreversible Electroporation which are not available at other hospitals in the country. The 1st DM course in India on Intervention Radiology was also started here a few years ago making this Department the Trail Blazer and Mecca of Intervention Radiology in India.

“Interventional Radiology is a very advanced  subspecialties of Radiology wherein  minimally invasive treatment is done for multiple diseases through pin-holes using image guidance stated Prof. Mandeep Kang.

PGIMER is one of the only two centers in the entire country to have acquired this new technology for ablating small cancers stated Prof. Naveen Kalra

At the National Conference, Prof. Naveen Kalra received the Best Publication Award for his paper titled  ‘Irreversible Electroporation for unresectable hepato cellular carcinoma’.

Dr Ujjwal Gorsi received  the Young Investigator Award  for his innovative research on ‘Role of Percutaneous embolization in treating visceral pseudoaneurysms’ . Dr Ujjwal also received best reviewer award for Journal of Clinical Interventional Radiology for the year 2021

Dr Vikas Bhatia received the Young Investigator Award for year 2020 for describing a new technique ‘Balloon catheter buddy technique for coiling of very small aneurysm ‘

Dr Sreedhara BC was elected as Executive Body Member of the ISVIR for the year 2021-2022 during the conference.

Department Resident Dr Vivek Aggarwal won the best Interventional  Radiology Fellow Award while Dr. Abhiman Baloji, Interventional Radiology Resident from PGI won the 3rd  prize for his Oral Presentation on “Vascular Interventions in Trauma”
